Overview

Nextgen USSD is a next-generation USSD/USSI gateway built for carriers and MVNOs that need interactive, menu-driven subscriber sessions at scale. It runs on Java 25, Quarkus and micro-jainslee, replacing legacy WildFly 10 JAIN SLEE deployments with a smaller, faster runtime and a modern application-server contract (JSON + protobuf).

Server-initiated sessions start from the application server over the classic NI /ussd endpoint. The gateway authenticates the API key, opens a dialog and issues a JSESSIONID, then pushes the menu to the subscriber over SS7 MAP and returns the result over HTTP.

When a subscriber goes silent or the application server is slow to reply, the gateway releases the live dialog (S1) instead of dropping the session, then bridges the late AS content back to the subscriber with a server-initiated S2 push — recovering sessions that a hard timeout would have lost.
